People
Local languages are Punjabi, Pahari and Hindi. The predominant language though spoken is a hybrid of Punjabi and Pahari. People typically wear dhoti and kurta (amongst elder males) and kurta pyjamas, pants, shirts, and trousers amongst youngster males and shalwar kameez for women.
According to the 2001 census, the total population of Una is 447,967 with a ratio of 997 females per 1,000 males. The literacy rate is at 81.09%. The total area of the district is 1,549 km2 (598 sq mi). The population is mix of Hindus and Sikhs, with Sikhs in the minority.
