Umaru Bangura or as he is commonly known as Zingalay was born and grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Zingalay grew up playing football in the street of Freetown where he was widely known as a talented young footballer. In 2003, the young Bangura who was still a secondary schoolstudent, was brought to the Sierra Leone under-17 soccer team. He played a key role as Sierra Leone qualified for the 2003 African under – 17 Championship in Swaziland. Bangura helped Sierra Leone to the final at the 2003 African Under-17 Championship, but his team lost to Cameroon, although Sierra Leone still qualified for the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland. Bangura started in all three games as Sierra Leone came in last place in their group.
Bangura joined Watford F.C. from Mighty Blackpool after the under-17 World Cup, but he was sent on loan because he could not secure a British work permit. He signed with Hønefoss BK in the Adeccoligaen division in 2006. Umaru Bangura signed with the Tippeligaen club Haugesund on the 29th of November 2010 on a free transfer.
