Tung Hua Lin - World War II

World War II

Lin was asked to design aircraft during World War II. His production team worked in a cave to protect against bombing by the Japanese. He lacked modern design tools such as wind tunnels to test the aircraft. The C-0101 which he designed was test flown from Chungking to Chengdu on November 18, 1944. Lin was awarded a medal by the Chinese government for his efforts.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or war:

    We devastate them unreligiously,
    And coldly ask their pottage, not their love.
    Therefore they shove us from them, yield to us
    Only what to our griping toil is due;
    But the sweet affluence of love and song,
    The rich results of the divine consents
    Of man and earth, of world beloved and lover;
    The nectar and ambrosia, are withheld.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    Now, were I once at home, and in good satire,
    I’d try conclusions with those Janizaries,
    And show them what an intellectual war is.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
