Treorchy - Entertainment and Social History

Entertainment and Social History

Treorchy is home to the Treorchy Male Choir, while attractions in the town include the Parc and Dare Hall. The Parc and Dare hall provides entertainment from new films as a cinema, to pantomime and theatre. The Parc and Dare work closely with Treorchy Comprehensive on many shows such as "Back To Broadway", the annual school Eisteddfod and regular school musicals. The Parc and Dare also hosts the Eisteddfod for Ysgol Gyfun Y Cymmer.

Treorchy hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1928, the only time the national event has been held in the Rhondda.

Max Boyce recorded the album, Live at Treorchy in the Treorchy Rugby Club.

Treorchy is the home of the Parc and Dare band.

Famous quotes containing the words entertainment and, social and/or history:

Huck was always willing to take a hand in any enterprise that offered entertainment and required no capital, for he had a troublesome superabundance of that sort of time which is not money.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

The social kiss is an exchange of insincerity between two combatants on the field of social advancement. It places hygiene before affection and condescension before all else.
Sunday Correspondent (London, Aug. 12, 1990)

The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more
    John Adams (1735–1826)
