Named Services
On inauguration, the passenger service was known as the Trans-Australian Express. Towards the end of its life as a passenger service between Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta it was usually known as the Trans-Australian. It was replaced by the service known as the Indian Pacific.
From the start of construction until 1996 the Tea and Sugar Train carried vital supplies to the isolated work sites and towns along the route.

Famous quotes containing the words named and/or services:
“The Puritans, to keep the remembrance of their unity one with another, and of their peaceful compact with the Indians, named their forest settlement CONCORD.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Working women today are trying to achieve in the work world what men have achieved all alongbut men have always had the help of a woman at home who took care of all the other details of living! Today the working woman is also that woman at home, and without support services in the workplace and a respect for the work women do within and outside the home, the attempt to do both is taking its tollon women, on men, and on our children.”
—Jeanne Elium (20th century)
