Train Reporting Number - Examples

Examples

  • The 06:09 Bath Spa to Glasgow Central service operated by CrossCountry is an express passenger service, so it is a class 1 train. It is going from the south-western to the Scottish region, so it is given the letter S for its destination. It is one of the first services in the day, and so its headcode is 1S35.
  • The 16:40 express London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly operated by Virgin Trains is internal to the Midland region, so it uses the Manchester letter H for its destination. As it is a late afternoon service, the two digits on the end of the headcode will be higher. Its headcode is 1H71.
  • In some areas, some services will repeat their headcodes. For example, the 05:40 Colne to Blackpool South service operated by Northern has the headcode 2S11', followed by the 06:46 service which has the headcode 2S13. This runs in a cycle until the 10:50 departure also has the headcode '2S11, as does the 15:50 departure.
  • The china clay train from Cliff Vale (Stoke-on-Trent) – St Blazey (Cornwall) is limited to 60 mph, so it is a class 6 train. It is going to the Western region, and its headcode is 6V70.
  • However, if 6V70 ran with a different, slower set of wagons restricted to 45 mph, it could run as 7V70, and if no wagons needed to be moved, it could run as 0V70 (engine only) – assuming that these do not clash with any other trains along the route, as having 2 0V70s running at the same time would not be allowed by TOPS and other systems.

Famous quotes containing the word examples:

Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

It is hardly to be believed how spiritual reflections when mixed with a little physics can hold people’s attention and give them a livelier idea of God than do the often ill-applied examples of his wrath.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

There are many examples of women that have excelled in learning, and even in war, but this is no reason we should bring ‘em all up to Latin and Greek or else military discipline, instead of needle-work and housewifry.
    Bernard Mandeville (1670–1733)
