Tony Cicoria - Struck By Lightning

Struck By Lightning

In 1994, when Tony Cicoria was 42 years old, he was struck by lightning near Albany, New York, while standing next to a public telephone. He had just hung up the phone and was about a foot away when a rogue bolt of lightning struck. He recalled seeing his own body on the ground surrounded by a bluish-white light. Cicoria’s heart had apparently stopped, but he was resuscitated by a woman, (coincidentally an intensive-care-unit nurse) who was waiting to use the telephone.

Famous quotes containing the words struck by, struck and/or lightning:

We are often struck by the force and precision of style to which hard-working men, unpracticed in writing, easily attain when required to make the effort. As if plainness and vigor and sincerity, the ornaments of style, were better learned on the farm and in the workshop than in the schools. The sentences written by such rude hands are nervous and tough, like hardened thongs, the sinews of the deer, or the roots of the pine.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

She was struck down because she happened by chance to encounter this man; such is life, it’s really inconceivable. She rode out to Freienwalde to protect her friend, and there she was strangled, strangled, killed, extinguished; such is life.
    Alfred Döblin (1878–1957)

When the cross blue lightning seemed to open
The breast of heaven, I did present myself
Even in the aim and very flash of it.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
