Struck By Lightning
In 1994, when Tony Cicoria was 42 years old, he was struck by lightning near Albany, New York, while standing next to a public telephone. He had just hung up the phone and was about a foot away when a rogue bolt of lightning struck. He recalled seeing his own body on the ground surrounded by a bluish-white light. Cicoria’s heart had apparently stopped, but he was resuscitated by a woman, (coincidentally an intensive-care-unit nurse) who was waiting to use the telephone.

Famous quotes containing the words struck by, struck and/or lightning:
“I am struck by the way people behave on the Tube. They look at each other beadily and inquisitively, and something goes on in their thoughts which must be equivalent to the way dogs and other animals, when they meet, sniff each others arses and nuzzle each others fur.”
—Graham Swift (b. 1949)
“I was struck by this universal spring upward of the forest evergreens.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“There is a little lightning in his eyes.
Iron at the mouth.
His brows ride neither too far up nor down.”
—Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
