Tonic water (or Indian tonic water) is a carbonated soft drink, in which quinine is dissolved. Originally used as a prophylactic against malaria, tonic water usually now has a significantly lower quinine content and is consumed for its distinctive bitter taste. It is often used in mixed drinks, particularly in gin and tonic.

Famous quotes containing the words tonic and/or water:
“You are done fora living dead mannot when you stop loving but stop hating. Hatred preserves: in it, in its chemistry, resides the mystery of life. Not for nothing is hatred still the best tonic ever discovered, for which any organism, however feeble, has a tolerance.”
—E.M. Cioran (b. 1911)
“Weve only just begun to learn about the water and its secrets, just as weve only touched on outer space. We dont entirely rule out the possibility that there might be some form of life on another planet. Then why not some entirely different form of life in a world we already know is inhabited by millions of living creatures?”
—Harry Essex (b. 1910)
