English Education

Tokyo Woman’s Christian University puts a great deal of effort into English education. For example, it has a “Career English Course” where students develop high-level English writing and presentation skills. In addition, every week English conversation class is held with a native English speaker and anybody who is in this university can participate.

Famous quotes containing the words english and/or education:

Before the Roman came to Rye or out to Severn strode,
The rolling English drunkard made the rolling English road.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

In the years of the Roman Republic, before the Christian era, Roman education was meant to produce those character traits that would make the ideal family man. Children were taught primarily to be good to their families. To revere gods, one’s parents, and the laws of the state were the primary lessons for Roman boys. Cicero described the goal of their child rearing as “self- control, combined with dutiful affection to parents, and kindliness to kindred.”
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
