Tim Mc Manus - Season 3

Season 3

McManus begins investigating Metzger after linking him to several recent attacks by the Aryan Brotherhood. He discovers that Metzger bears a neo-Nazi tattoo, and learns that he once belonged to a white supremacist group in Montana. McManus eventually convinces Glynn to help him take him down, reminding him that in Metzger's eyes, Glynn is just another "nigger" of no consequence. After Keller testifies against Metzger, the guard is discreetly murdered by Beecher.

McManus seeks to hire a corrections officer from who would hold an unbiased opinion about specific inmates. McManus and Glynn agree to hire Sean Murphy, a guard from Attica who is a long-time friend of McManus'. Murphy immediately helps McManus set up an inmate boxing program, and helps Ryan and Cyril O'Reily deal with the Aryans. Because the O'Reily brothers murdered Gloria Nathan's husband, McManus turns a deaf ear to their problems. Murphy enrolls Cyril in the boxing tournament where he beats James Robson, an Aryan who raped him, in the first round.

McManus begins a sexual relationship with Claire Howell, a new female officer at Em City. When McManus ends the relationship and transfers her to another unit, she sues him for sexual harassment. After case is settled out of court, McManus endures Howell's constant threats to sue him. Adebisi takes advantage of the situation by convincing Wangler to sue him for sexual harassment as well. While Wangler's claim is in no way credible, Glynn begins to wonder if the recent claims against McManus are true. Adebisi tells a news crew about McManus' alleged abuse, and organizes Em City's black inmates against him.

Racial tensions run high within Oz as Cyril O'Reily is pitted against black prisoner Hamid Khan in an upcoming boxing match. After a fight breaks out between the Aryan and Muslim inmates, Glynn considers postponing the fight indefinitely. Glynn is eventually persuaded to allow the fight to proceed, but the event ends in tragedy when Khan is left permanently brain damaged. Meanwhile, Whittlesey and Howell erupt in a fight over Howell's sexual harassment charge. They end up hospitalizing each other.

Glynn confronts McManus, saying that he is not taking responsibility for his actions. McManus angrily accuses Glynn of giving the black inmates and staffers preferential treatment in conflicts involving him. To attempt to put an end on the racial tension, Murphy and McManus confiscate the inmates' pornography magazines as a way of bringing them to heel. Adebisi has black inmate Augustus Hill sent to solitary confinement, giving the blacks a pretext to riot. Glynn locks down Oz, fearing racial violence.

Famous quotes containing the word season:

Much poetry seems to be aware of its situation in time and of its relation to the metronome, the clock, and the calendar. ... The season or month is there to be felt; the day is there to be seized. Poems beginning “When” are much more numerous than those beginning “Where” of “If.” As the meter is running, the recurrent message tapped out by the passing of measured time is mortality.
    William Harmon (b. 1938)
