Experimental Values
Thermal conductivity is important in material science, research, electronics, building insulation and related fields, especially where high operating temperatures are achieved. However, materials used in such trades are rarely subjected to chemical purity standards. Several materials are shown in the list of thermal conductivities. These should be considered approximate due to the uncertainties related to material definitions.
Cooling solutions for electronics or turbines usually use high thermal conductivity materials such as copper, aluminium, and silver to cool down specific components. On the other hand, applications in construction or furnaces use low thermal conductive materials such as polystyrene and alumina for insulation purposes.

Famous quotes containing the words experimental and/or values:
“When we run over libraries persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our hand any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames; for it can contain nothing but sophistry and illusion.”
—David Hume (17111776)
“Writing ought either to be the manufacture of stories for which there is a market demanda business as safe and commendable as making soap or breakfast foodsor it should be an art, which is always a search for something for which there is no market demand, something new and untried, where the values are intrinsic and have nothing to do with standardized values.”
—Willa Cather (18761947)
