"The Freedom Singers" accompanied Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Washington D.C. when he gave his "Dream of an Equal America" speech. The event drew upwards of 350,000 civil rights advocates to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

"The Freedom Singers" recorded on a live album for the Newport Folk Festival in the year 1963 where the group performed "We Shall Overcome" with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Peter, Paul, and Mary.

"The Freedom Singers" also recorded their one and only album in 1963 for the Mercury record label.
