The New War
Beginning in #39, A New War, Mack Bolan gets a new identity. Now known as Col. John Phoenix (Retired) he is given a command center in Virginia dubbed "Stony Man Farm". From there he wages war against terrorist organizations throughout the world. Phoenix was chosen to be Bolan's new alias in reference to the mythological bird that would resurrect itself from the ashes of a former life, just as Bolan had done after the events of Executioner #38, Satan's Sabbath.

Famous quotes containing the word war:
“War and culture, those are the two poles of Europe, her heaven and hell, her glory and shame, and they cannot be separated from one another. When one comes to an end, the other will end also and one cannot end without the other. The fact that no war has broken out in Europe for fifty years is connected in some mysterious way with the fact that for fifty years no new Picasso has appeared either.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
