The Montreal Tamtams are a drum circle based in Montreal, Canada. The free event gathers thousands of drum players, dancers, vendors and visitors, every Sunday, at the George-Étienne Cartier Monument in Mount Royal Park. The Tamtam festivities start around 1 pm and continue until sunset. Tam-tams, or simply "tams" as they are sometimes called by locals, began in 1978 and over the years have become one of the main tourist attractions of the city. They take place officially from early May to late September. In addition to the drum circle by the statue lots of people sit on the grassy areas surrounding relaxing, tanning, playing frisbee, and smoking marijuana. There is also a DJ booth set up at the Mordechai Richler Gazebo and a larping area further back in the woods.
