Tall Firs

Tall Firs are a New York City based underground electric folk rock band, originally formed in 1990 by Dave Mies and Aaron Mullan in Annapolis, Maryland. Their self-titled full-length album was finally completed and released sixteen years later in 2006 on the independent music label Ecstatic Peace!.

Tall Firs grew out of an over-the-phone collaboration between teenaged David Mies and Aaron Mullan, who were school friends that lived too far away to walk to one another's houses. Allegedly, the two would sit at home and cue up cassettes from the Circle Jerks and Sex Pistols to play over simultaneously. They would not play their first concert until eleven years later.

Famous quotes containing the words tall and/or firs:

He hung out of the window a long while looking up and down the street. The world’s second metropolis. In the brick houses and the dingy lamplight and the voices of a group of boys kidding and quarreling on the steps of a house opposite, in the regular firm tread of a policeman, he felt a marching like soldiers, like a sidewheeler going up the Hudson under the Palisades, like an election parade, through long streets towards something tall white full of colonnades and stately. Metropolis.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

the broad cloud-driving moon in the clear sky
Lifts o’er the firs her shining shield,
    And in her tranquil light
Sleep falls on forest and field.
See! sleep hath fallen: the trees are asleep:
The night is come. The land is wrapt in sleep.
    Robert Bridges (1844–1930)
