Sympathy Jones is a musical comedy, conceived by composer and lyricist Masi Asare. The book was written by Brooke Pierce.
It tells the story of Sympathy Jones, a receptionist at an intelligence agency who dreams of being a spy. When a top secret file accidentally lands on her desk, Sympathy sets off on a mission to stop villainess Kitty Hawk, leader of the Secret Coalition for Revenge, Assassination, Terrorism, Counterintelligence and Heists (S.C.R.A.T.C.H.).
The show had its world premiere at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in September 2007, with Kate Shindle playing the title character.
Famous quotes containing the words sympathy and/or jones:
“Shall we never have done with that cliché, so stupid that it could only be human, about the sympathy of animals for man when he is unhappy? Animals love happiness almost as much as we do. A fit of crying disturbs them, theyll sometimes imitate sobbing, and for a moment theyll reflect our sadness. But they flee unhappiness as they flee fever, and I believe that in the long run they are capable of boycotting it.”
—Colette [Sidonie Gabrielle Colette] (18731954)
“Romance, like the rabbit at the dog track, is the elusive, fake, and never attained reward which, for the benefit and amusement of our masters, keeps us running and thinking in safe circles.”
—Beverly Jones (b. 1927)
