Summit and View
The fell has two summits, the true top being marked by a very small cairn at the north east end. Alfred Wainwright noted that early additions of the Ordnance Survey maps stated only the height of the south west top (2,756 ft) and recorded his calculation of the true height of the fell. The southern top provides better views and is blessed with a much larger cairn. All around is grass with the exception of Deepdale Crag, a small area of exposed rock on the eastern side. The view is extensive with all major Lakeland ranges in sight.

Famous quotes containing the words summit and/or view:
“What if it tempt you toward the flood, my lord,
Or to the dreadful summit of the cliff
That beetles oer his base into the sea,
And there assume some other horrible form
Which might deprive your sovereignty of reason,
And draw you into madness?”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“I am writing to resist the view that Europe and civilization are going to Hell. If I am being crucified for an ideaMthat is, the coherent idea around which my muddles accumulatedit is probably the idea that European culture ought to survive, that the best qualities of it ought to survive along with whatever cultures, in whatever universality. Against the propaganda of terror and the propaganda of luxury, have you a nice simple answer?”
—Ezra Pound (18851972)
