Benefits
The plan provides tax-free replacement of income of 55% of an employee's average weekly pay, up to a maximum weekly benefit, which was $959.00 ($50/week minimum) in 2009. For 2010 and 2011, the maximum weekly benefit increases to $987.00. Benefits become available on the eighth consecutive day of disability and continue for up to 52 weeks of disability if the beneficiary paid SDI taxes as an employee, 39 weeks if the beneficiary had voluntary self-employment coverage.
SDI is deductible on federal returns (Schedule A) because it is a considered a state income tax.

Famous quotes containing the word benefits:
“It is too late in the century for women who have received the benefits of co-education in schools and colleges, and who bear their full share in the worlds work, not to care who make the laws, who expound and who administer them.”
—J. Ellen Foster (18401910)
“While greedy good-doers, beneficent beasts of prey,
Swarm over their lives enforcing benefits ...”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“One of your biggest jobs as a parent of multiples is no bigger than simply talking to your children individually and requiring that they respond to you individually as well. The benefits of this kind of communication can be enormous, in terms of the relationship you develop with each child, in terms of their language development, and eventually in terms of their sense of individuality, too.”
—Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)
