Squidward Tentacles - Relationships With Other Characters

Relationships With Other Characters

  • Spongebob Squarepants: Squidward shows a one-sided dislike to Spongebob, even going as far as to say "I hate you" ("The Graveyard Shift") at least once (however, later in the same episode he said that no matter what he said, he has "always sorta liked ). He has tried to move away often, and will go to ridiculous measures to get away from having to play with Spongebob. In ("SB-129"), Squidward hides in the freezer just so he doesn't have to go jelly fishing. But even though Squidward seems to openly dislike Spongebob, he has shown a softer side to him on several occasions. One of the first is when Spongebob and Squidward are forced to deliver a pizza together. They get lost for hours, but finally get to the costumer's house. Spongebob comes back crying that the costumer wouldn't take it (because he claims they forgot his drink), so Squidward takes pity and smashes the pizza in the costumer's face. Squidward once moved, but eventually realized that he couldn't live without Spongebob. In another episode ("SB-129") he admitted to missing Spongebob. It is implied that even though Squidward doesn't like Spongbob, he does love him, in an older-brother like way.
  • Patrick Star: Squidward dislikes Patrick as he dislikes Spongebob. However, Squidward does not retain any pity for Patrick, or grudging love as he does for Spongebob. Squidward looks at Patrick as someone unbelievably idiotic. However, he does find Patrick less annoying and in the way. He also enjoys the brief flashes of intelligence Patrick is prone to throughout the series.
  • Mr. Krabs: Unlike Spongebob, Squid sees right through Mr. Krabs to see how cheap he really is. Squidward is often angry at Krabs for underpaying him (in one episode, Mr. Krabs goes as far as billing Squid for things like breathing and existing), and forcing him to do boring ("The Graveyard Shift"), dangerous ("Pizza Delivery"), or pointless journeys; Krabs tolerates Squidward's frequent insubordination to the point where, despite it all, he has never been fired. However, Squid and Mr. Krabs do occasionally see eye to eye on certain things, as in "Patty Hype".

Famous quotes containing the words relationships with other and/or characters:

What we often take to be family values—the work ethic, honesty, clean living, marital fidelity, and individual responsibility—are in fact social, religious, or cultural values. To be sure, these values are transmitted by parents to their children and are familial in that sense. They do not, however, originate within the family. It is the value of close relationships with other family members, and the importance of these bonds relative to other needs.
    David Elkind (20th century)

Do you set down your name in the scroll of youth, that are written down old with all the characters of age?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
