Spindle Turning - Method

Method

For spindle turning, the wood is held on the lathe either by both ends (between the headstock and tailstock) or by one end only.

Wood is generally removed by running a turning tool down the slope of the wood from a larger diameter in the wood to a smaller diameter.

Famous quotes containing the word method:

    You that do search for every purling spring
    Which from the ribs of old Parnassus flows,
    And every flower, not sweet perhaps, which grows
    Near thereabouts into your poesy wring;
    You that do dictionary’s method bring
    Into your rhymes, running in rattling rows;
    Sir Philip Sidney (1554–1586)

    Women are denied masturbation even more severely than men and that’s another method of control—they’re not taught to please themselves.... Most women—it takes them a while to warm up to the “situation” but once they get into it, I’m sure they’re going to get just as hooked as—well, everyone I know is!
    Lydia Lunch (b. 1959)

    Women stand related to beautiful nature around us, and the enamoured youth mixes their form with moon and stars, with woods and waters, and the pomp of summer. They heal us of awkwardness by their words and looks. We observe their intellectual influence on the most serious student. They refine and clear his mind: teach him to put a pleasing method into what is dry and difficult.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
