Famous quotes containing the words society of, society and/or scotland:
“In the society of men the truth resides now less in what things are than in what they are not. Our social realities are so ugly if seen in the light of exiled truth, and beauty is no longer possible if it is not a lie.”
—R.D. (Ronald David)
“In society you will not find health, but in nature. Unless our feet at least stood in the midst of nature, all our faces would be pale and livid. Society is always diseased, and the best is the most so.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The state of monarchy is the supremest thing upon earth: for kings are not only Gods Lieutenants upon earth, and sit upon Gods throne, but even by God himself they are called gods.”
—James I of England, James VI of Scotland (15661625)
