In 2008, Raphael Saadiq released his classic soul-inspired album The Way I See It, which became a sleeper hit. Overlooked upon its release, it ended up charting for 41 weeks on the Billboard 200.
In November 2010, Miguel released his debut album All I Want Is You. It initially performed poorly, debuting at number 109 on the Billboard 200 with sales of 11,000 copies, and was underpromoted by his record label. However, it became a sleeper hit, as its singles attained radio airplay and Miguel toured in its promotion, and ultimately sold 404,000 copies.
The 2011 pop hit "Pumped Up Kicks" by indie rock band Foster the People has been described as a sleeper hit as it was originally a modern rock radio hit in late 2010, and slowly crossed over to contemporary hit radio by August 2011. The song's sleeper success was considered surprising by some media outlets, as rock music—and especially indie rock music—rarely crossed over to the CHR format throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.

Famous quotes containing the word music:
“But listen, up the road, something gulps, the church spire
Opens its eight bells out, skulls mouths which will not tire
To tell how there is no music or movement which secures
Escape from the weekday time. Which deadens and endures.”
—Louis MacNeice (19071963)
“Music is spiritual. The music business is not.”
—Van Morrison (b. 1945)
“As for the terms good and bad, they indicate no positive quality in things regarded in themselves, but are merely modes of thinking, or notions which we form from the comparison of things with one another. Thus one and the same thing can be at the same time good, bad, and indifferent. For instance music is good for him that is melancholy, bad for him who mourns; for him who is deaf, it is neither good nor bad.”
—Baruch (Benedict)
