General Election

In 2001 Thomson stood in the General Election as the Stuckist Candidate. His opponent was Chris Smith, the then Culture Minister. Thomson adopted the painting of Sir Nicholas Serota and the knickers as the official logo of his party. He said "I can't see how the Electoral Commission would find it offensive. Famous quotes containing the words general and/or election:

That sort of half sigh, which, accompanied by two or three slight nods of the head, is pity’s small change in general society.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)

The election makes me think of a story of a man who was dying. He had only two minutes to live, so he sent for a clergyman and asked him, “Where is the best place to go to?” He was undecided about it. So the minister told him that each place had its advantages—heaven for climate, and hell for society.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
