Career

As Sheriff of Cornwall in 1497 Sir John was a target for the Cornish rebels under Richard Pendyn of Pendeen who attacked and 'dismantled' Tehidy, the family home. He was created Knight of the Bath by King Henry VII in November, 1501 at the time of the marriage of his son and heir Prince Arthur to Katherine of Aragon. He was Sheriff of Cornwall again in 1517 and 1522 and Sheriff of Devon in 1524. In 1520 he was part of the entourage which accompanied Henry VIII to the Field of Cloth of Gold.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

I’ve been in the twilight of my career longer than most people have had their career.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)

Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
