History
Located at the intersection of Kingsway and Joyce Street, the original schoolhouse was central to the Collingwood community since its completion in 1896. The century-old schoolhouse is a category A heritage building in Vancouver's Heritage Register. Originally called the Vancouver East School, its name changed to Collingwood Heights in 1908 and then to its present name in 1911. The school is named after Guy Carleton, Quebec's governor during the 18th century. The school is known as the oldest school in Vancouver.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The basic idea which runs right through modern history and modern liberalism is that the public has got to be marginalized. The general public are viewed as no more than ignorant and meddlesome outsiders, a bewildered herd.”
—Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
“The myth of independence from the mother is abandoned in mid- life as women learn new routes around the motherboth the mother without and the mother within. A mid-life daughter may reengage with a mother or put new controls on care and set limits to love. But whatever she does, her childs history is never finished.”
—Terri Apter (20th century)
“I assure you that in our next class we will concern ourselves solely with the history of Egypt, and not with the more lurid and non-curricular subject of living mummies.”
—Griffin Jay, and Reginald LeBorg. Prof. Norman (Frank Reicher)
