Simple Partial Seizure

Simple Partial Seizure

Simple partial seizures are seizures which affect only a small region of the brain, often the temporal lobes or hippocampi. People who have simple partial seizures retain consciousness. Simple partial seizures are often precursors to larger seizures, where the abnormal electrical activity spreads to a larger area of (or all of) the brain, usually resulting in a complex partial seizure or a tonic-clonic seizure. In this case they are often known as an aura.

Famous quotes containing the words simple, partial and/or seizure:

Of course, Behaviorism “works.” So does torture. Give me a no- nonsense, down-to-earth behaviorist, a few drugs, and simple electrical appliances, and in six months I will have him reciting the Athanasian Creed in public.
    —W.H. (Wystan Hugh)

And meanwhile we have gone on living,
    Living and partly living,
    Picking together the pieces,
    Gathering faggots at nightfall,
    Building a partial shelter,
For sleeping and eating and drinking and laughter.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Shut not so soon; the dull-eyed night
    Has not yet begun
To make a seizure on the light,
Or to seal up the sun.
    Robert Herrick (1591–1674)
