History
In 1998, SIAS was founded by Mr Shawn Chen, head of SIAS Group, as a small business trade school. It is the first American university in Central China. It started with around 200 students and now has 23,500 students, 50 buildings, an Olympic swimming stadium, basketball courts, and recreation areas. During the early years, Chen's close friends were in charge of university duties, such as library maintenance and upkeep, as well as other administrative positions.
Since inception, it has struggled to recruit qualified teachers to take up residence in remote rural towns.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
“Hence poetry is something more philosophic and of graver import than history, since its statements are rather of the nature of universals, whereas those of history are singulars.”
—Aristotle (384322 B.C.)
“The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more”
—John Adams (17351826)
