Sheherazade Goldsmith - Philanthropy and Social Life

Philanthropy and Social Life

Goldsmith is a well-known socialite in England. She often supports London-based charities by attending society parties in their aid. She has been a committee member for the HOPING foundation, which works with Palestinian refugee children. She is also a supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, for which she helped organize a fund-raising fashion show with the designers Valentine Robinson, who also designed her wedding dress. At dinner parties, she has said, she is conscious of "not being an eco-bore" and discusses her green interests only when asked. In 2007, The Sunday Times branded Goldsmith a role-model for "daughters of the best families pursue prominent careers of their own" while also marrying "husbands their families will endorse".

Famous quotes containing the words philanthropy, social and/or life:

Almost every man we meet requires some civility,—requires to be humored; he has some fame, some talent, some whim of religion or philanthropy in his head that is not to be questioned, and which spoils all conversation with him. But a friend is a sane man who exercises not my ingenuity, but me.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I know that there are many persons to whom it seems derogatory to link a body of philosophic ideas to the social life and culture of their epoch. They seem to accept a dogma of immaculate conception of philosophical systems.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)

The child-rearing years are relatively short in our increased life span. It is hard for young women caught between diapers and formulas to believe, but there are years and years of freedom ahead. I regret my impatience to get on with my career. I wish I’d relaxed, allowed myself the luxury of watching the world through my little girl’s eyes.
    Eda Le Shan (20th century)
