Shayol Ghul - Land of Madmen

Land of Madmen

Little is known about this separate, island continent, except that, apparently, all channelers there are insane, and civilization did not survive the Breaking. It is directly south and well below the equator from the main continent, near the Southern Icecap.

Famous quotes containing the words land of, land and/or madmen:

The impersonal insensitive friendliness which takes the place of ceremony in that land of waifs and strays.
    Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966)

The mode of clearing and planting is to fell the trees, and burn once what will burn, then cut them up into suitable lengths, roll into heaps, and burn again; then, with a hoe, plant potatoes where you can come at the ground between the stumps and charred logs; for a first crop the ashes suffice for manure, and no hoeing being necessary the first year. In the fall, cut, roll, and burn again, and so on, till the land is cleared; and soon it is ready for grain, and to be laid down.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is reported here that the King of Prussia has gone mad and has been locked up. There would be nothing bad about that: at least that might of his would no longer be a menace, and you could breathe freely for a while. I much prefer madmen who are locked up to those who are not.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)
