In 1994, he hit .344—winning the International League batting title—while ranking third in runs, hits, and on-base percentage and hitting 13 home runs with 81 RBIs for Toronto's AAA affiliate, the Syracuse Chiefs. He was an International League all-star, was voted the International League Rookie of the Year, and was also voted the International League's Best Batting Prospect, Best Outfield Arm, and Most Exciting Player in Baseball America's Tools of the Trade poll. In addition, he won the R. Howard Webster Award as the Chief's MVP, and was the Blue Jays' Minor League Player of the Year.

Green then hit .306 in the 1994–1995 Venezuelan Winter League.

Famous quotes containing the words minor, league and/or career:

People are too apt to treat God as if he were a minor royalty.
    Herbert Beerbohm, Sir Tree (1853–1917)

We’re the victims of a disease called social prejudice, my child. These dear ladies of the law and order league are scouring out the dregs of the town. C’mon be a glorified wreck like me.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)

A black boxer’s career is the perfect metaphor for the career of a black male. Every day is like being in the gym, sparring with impersonal opponents as one faces the rudeness and hostility that a black male must confront in the United States, where he is the object of both fear and fascination.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
