Famous quotes containing the words shakespeare, theatre and/or company:

I, of ladies most deject and wretched,
That sucked the honey of his music vows,
Now see that noble and most sovereign reason
Like sweet bells jangled out of tune and harsh.
    —William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

For the theatre one needs long arms; it is better to have them too long than too short. An artiste with short arms can never, never make a fine gesture.
    Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923)

Life is very narrow. Bring any club or company of intelligent men together again after ten years, and if the presence of some penetrating and calming genius could dispose them to frankness, what a confession of insanities would come up!
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
