Conception and Development
When Riichiro Inagaki was creating Eyeshield 21 series he wanted to create a "protagonist that was wimpy at the beginning, yet could perform outstandingly in a sports game", and from this premise he created Sena. Inagaki also states he is a fan of St. Louis Rams as well as a fan of Marshall Faulk, which was a St. Louis Rams's player. Inagaki said that seeing the way Faulk run served as an inspiration for the creation of the character. Additionally, Inagaki choose Sena's name in a homage to the Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna.

Famous quotes containing the words conception and/or development:
“Every man is in a state of conflict, owing to his attempt to reconcile himself and his relationship with life to his conception of harmony. This conflict makes his soul a battlefield, where the forces that wish this reconciliation fight those that do not and reject the alternative solutions they offer. Works of art are attempts to fight out this conflict in the imaginative world.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
“Ultimately, it is the receiving of the child and hearing what he or she has to say that develops the childs mind and personhood.... Parents who enter into a dialogue with their children, who draw out and respect their opinions, are more likely to have children whose intellectual and ethical development proceeds rapidly and surely.”
—Mary Field Belenky (20th century)
