Greater Semarang
Suburbanization has occurred to a great extent in Java, and Semarang is no exception. Greater Semarang was initially defined as Semarang, Semarang Regency, the newly carved Salatiga city, Kendal Regency, and Demak Regency. The more recent official definition (all of which have acronmys) is called Kedungsapur, an acronym for "Ke"ndal+"D"emak+"Ung"aran+"Sa"latiga+"Pur"wodadi. This includes Ungaran (already counted as Semarang Regency) and Purwodadi, Grobogan Regency. It is Indonesia's 4th largest metropolitan area, after Greater Jakarta, Gerbangkertosusila (Surabaya), and Bandung Metropolitan Area.

Famous quotes containing the word greater:
“Families suffered badly under industrialization, but they survived, and the lives of men, women, and children improved. Children, once marginal and exploited figures, have moved to a position of greater protection and respect,... The historic decline in the overall death rates for children is an astonishing social fact, notwithstanding the disgraceful infant mortality figures for the poor and minorities. Like the decline in death from childbirth for women, this is a stunning achievement.”
—Joseph Featherstone (20th century)
