Schwerin Castle - Ghosts

Ghosts

The small impious ghost Petermännchen reportedly roams the halls of the Schwerin castle. This little spirit is no more than a few feet high, and is often depicted in clothes from the 17th century, something resembling a cavalier. His existence may be in doubt, but he is a popular legend as ever.

Famous quotes containing the word ghosts:

Why the ghosts of poor old dead Romans should be dragged in every time a man eats an oyster, I don’t see. We’re as fine specimens as they were. I swear I shan’t let any old turned-to-clay Lucullus outlive me, even if I’ve never eaten a lamprey.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

    The dead fed you
Amid the slant stones of graveyards.
    Pale ghosts who planted you
    Came in the night-time
And let their thin hair blow through your clustered stems.
    Amy Lowell (1874–1925)

It is with true love as with ghosts and apparitions: every one talks of it, and scarcely any one has seen it.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
