Sara Parkin - Life After Politics

Life After Politics

In 1996 Parkin moved on to create the Forum for the Future with two other past Green party activists, Porritt and Paul Ekins.

Still working with the Forum today, she designed the pioneering Leadership for Sustainable Development Masters course, which is still taught to 12 students a year in association with Middlesex University. As a Founder Director and Trustee, she focuses on integrating sustainability into post-school education, engineering and other professions.

She currently sits on the boards of the Natural Environment Research Council, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and Head Teachers into Industry, and from 2000-2006 was a board member of the Environment Agency for England and Wales. She is a Trustee of the St. Andrews Prize, Advisor to the Population and Sustainability Network and a patron of Population Matters (formerly the Optimum Population Trust).

Parkin has written and edited several works on Green politics. Most notable was her biography of Green activist Petra Kelly, published to mixed reviews in 1994. Her latest book on sustainable leadership was published in 2010.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or politics:

... such is the horrible idea that I entertain respecting a life of servitude, that if I conceived of there being no possibility of my rising above the condition of servant, I would gladly hail death as a welcome messenger.
    Maria Stewart (1803–1879)

Our family talked a lot at table, and only two subjects were taboo: politics and personal troubles. The first was sternly avoided because Father ran a nonpartisan daily in a small town, with some success, and did not wish to express his own opinions in public, even when in private.
    M.F.K. Fisher (1908–1992)
