Sao Shwe Thaik - Speaker of Upper House

Speaker of Upper House

After this term as president, he was the chairman of the chamber of nationalities until 1962. In the military coup of March 1962 he was arrested by the Revolutionary Council headed by General Ne Win and died in prison in November 1962. One of his sons, 17 at that time, was killed in the March 1962 military coup, apparently the only casualty on the day of the coup.

Famous quotes containing the words speaker of, speaker, upper and/or house:

After my death I wish no other herald,
No other speaker of my living actions
To keep mine honor from corruption,
But such an honest chronicler as Griffith.

    The speaker in this case
    is a middle-aged witch, me
tangled on my two great arms,
    my face in a book
    and my mouth wide,
ready to tell you a story or two.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Give me the islands of the upper air,
    all mountains
    and the towering mountain trees.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.
Bible: Hebrew Psalm LV (l. LV, 12–14)
