Sanjay Gandhi National Park - Forest Fires

Forest Fires

During the time of summer and any time before the monsoon, the sanjay gandhi national park (SGNP) is a victim of forest fires with at least one in two weeks. Sadly, (not surprisingly) the government and forest department hardly ever do anything and this has resulted in the loss of rare trees and loss of habitat for wild animals. the foul play of locals is often suspected. Often locals burn the trees on some of the outskirts of the forests and make their slums there. after some years the land is acquired by builders and buildings are made.

Famous quotes containing the words forest and/or fires:

A lady with whom I was riding in the forest said to me that the woods always seemed to her to wait, as if the genii who inhabit them suspend their deeds until the wayfarer had passed onward; a thought which poetry has celebrated in the dance of the fairies, which breaks off on the approach of human feet.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

My flowery and green age was passing away, and I feeling a chill in
the fires had been wasting my heart, for I was drawing near the
    hillside above the grave.
    Petrarch (1304–1374)
