2013 brought a new driver and co-owner for SSM now Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. The former Toyota Atlantic Championship driver, Ric Peterson, joined to express his passion for racing in a new form. By teaming up with successful INDYCAR team owner Sam Schmidt, Peterson became an equity owner to form Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for the 2013 season and beyond.
The 2012 Firestone Indy Lights champion Tristan Vautier moved up the ranks of the Schmidt Peterson team to race in the Izod IndyCar Series for SPM in 2013.
