Salt River Valley

The Salt River Valley defines an extensive valley on the Salt River in central Arizona, which contains the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

Although this geographic term still identifies the area, the name "Valley of the Sun" popularly replaced the usage starting in the early 1930s for purposes of boosterism.

Famous quotes containing the words salt, river and/or valley:

No American worth his salt should go around looking for a root. I advance this in all modesty, as a not unreasonable opinion.
    Wyndham Lewis (1882–1957)

The mountain may be approached more easily and directly on horseback and on foot from the northeast side, by the Aroostook road, and the Wassataquoik River; but in that case you see much less of the wilderness, none of the glorious river and lake scenery, and have no experience of the batteau and the boatman’s life.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
    Bible: Hebrew Psalms, 23:4.
