Smith's father is American, from New Jersey and his Mother is of Anglo-Jamaican heritage, with his Grandparents hailing from Montego Bay. He first attended St. Aloysius College secondary school, which was attended by Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole, before moving on to Highams Park School, where he was a class mate of Jamie O'Hara.
