Rutland Boughton - The Rutland Boughton Music Trust

The Rutland Boughton Music Trust

To restore the composer's reputation, The Rutland Boughton Music Trust was established in 1978, the year of the composer's Centenary, to encourage performances and sponsor recordings of his works. Many of these, including some world premieres, now appear on disc with the Hyperion Records Ltd label . The Oliver Cromwell symphony - first heard in 2005 - and three of the Songs of the English (last heard around 1904/5) have been released by Dutton, as well as a selection of Songs for mezzo and pianoforte on the British Music Society's own label.

More recently the 3rd Symphony has been performed in public by The Manchester Beethoven Orchestra and Aylesbury Symphony Orchestra in 2010 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the composer's death. The performance in Manchester is believed to have been the first ever public performance of the work in the North West of England and was facilitated by the generous assistance of the Rutland Boughton Music Trust.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or trust:

During the cattle drives, Texas cowboy music came into national significance. Its practical purpose is well known—it was used primarily to keep the herds quiet at night, for often a ballad sung loudly and continuously enough might prevent a stampede. However, the cowboy also sang because he liked to sing.... In this music of the range and trail is “the grayness of the prairies, the mournful minor note of a Texas norther, and a rhythm that fits the gait of the cowboy’s pony.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Jesus: Senor, the widow Gomez delivered a son this morning, a boy.
Guthrie McCabe: Bully for the widow Gomez.
Jesus: But Senor, it has been more than a year ago since Senor Antonio Gomez has been buried in the church house.
McCabe: Well, there’s some men y’a just can’t trust to stay where you put ‘em.
    Frank S. Nugent (1908–1965)
