Russell Hitchcock - Early Life

Early Life

Hitchcock was the second of two children (his sister Gail was four years older), and he lived his formative years in Brunswick, a suburb of Melbourne. When he was 7, he moved around to Melbourne suburbs as his parents managed boarding houses. He attended South Brunswick State School, and he was hit by a truck at age 7. He attended Princes Hill High School (now known as Princes Hill Secondary College) in Carlton North. At school he was appointed a prefect and was a keen member of the school baseball team. He left school in 1965 to work as a salesman. At this time he played drums and was lead vocalist in a band called "19th Generation". At the age of 20, he obtained a job in the spare parts division of a computer company and worked there for three years, before being promoted and transferred to Sydney. In 1975 he was convinced by his girlfriend Karen to audition for Jesus Christ Superstar. Once he was accepted in the cast, he met Graham Russell. During his solo career, Russell Hitchcock has released three (3) albums titled "Russell Hitchcock", "Take Time" and the last one, a country solo CD titled "Russell Hitchcock Tennessee, The Nashville Sessions".

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

All of Western tradition, from the late bloom of the British Empire right through the early doom of Vietnam, dictates that you do something spectacular and irreversible whenever you find yourself in or whenever you impose yourself upon a wholly unfamiliar situation belonging to somebody else. Frequently it’s your soul or your honor or your manhood, or democracy itself, at stake.
    June Jordan (b. 1939)

Indeed, the life of cattle, like that of many men, is but a sort of locomotiveness; they move a side at a time, and man, by his machinery, is meeting the horse and the ox half-way.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
