Rudolf Bultmann - Dates of The Gospels

Dates of The Gospels

Bultmann held that the final form of the four canonical gospels was written toward the end of the second century.

Bultmann held to a conservative dating of the Gospel of John: late first-century prior to the second century. He believed the Synoptics were written prior to John, based on their displaying Palestinian rather than Hellenistic Christianity. (see his chapter Orientation in The New Testament Theology.)

Famous quotes containing the word dates:

I never heard of an old man forgetting where he had buried his money! Old people remember what interests them: the dates fixed for their lawsuits, and the names of their debtors and creditors.
    Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 B.C.)
