- This was the first ever Royal Rumble which featured only 20 wrestlers.
- One Man Gang held the record for most eliminations in a single rumble, and most eliminations overall with 6, until this record was broken the following year by Hulk Hogan.
- Bret Hart was the first ever entrant in a Royal Rumble match, and he held a record for longevity time until next year by lasting 25:42.
