Altmann is highly critical of the UK's new pension savings scheme, National Employment Savings Trust or NEST. She fears the advice will be inadequate and many lower-paid workers will be automatically enrolled into a scheme which will provide less than the means-tested benefits they would receive anyway. Famous quotes containing the words pensions and/or act:
“Many old people receive pensions for no other reason, it seems to me, but as a compensation for having lived a long time ago.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Wonderful Force of Public Opinion! We must act and walk in all points as it prescribes; follow the traffic it bids us, realise the sum of money, the degree of influence it expects of us, or we shall be lightly esteemed; certain mouthfuls of articulate wind will be blown at us, and this what mortal courage can front?”
—Thomas Carlyle (17951881)
