The Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) is the public health school of Emory University. Founded in 1990, RSPH has more than 850 students pursuing master's degrees (MPH/MSPH) and over 100 students pursuing doctorate degrees (PhD). The school comprises six departments: Behavioral Sciences/Health Education (BSHE), Biostatistics (BIOS), Environmental and Occupational Health (EH), Epidemiology (EPI), Global Health (GH), and Health Policy and Management (HPM).
In addition to pursuing degrees from a single department, students may combine interests and participate in joint programs, both within RSPH and in conjunction with other professional schools at Emory. Unique programs to Rollins are Global Environmental Health, Global Epidemiology, and the joint EH/EPI MSPH program.
Rollins is uniquely situated in the "public health capital of the world," sharing the Clifton Corridor with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Cancer Society. In addition to partnerships with the CDC and the American Cancer Society, many faculty and students are involved with other Atlanta-based organizations, such as CARE and the Carter Center. A prime example of Rollins role is the Center for Global Safe Water, which seeks "to improve access to safe water and reduce the burden of waterborne disease and death."
One of the founding fathers of RSPH was Dr. David Sencer, M.D. and MPH, Director of the CDC from 1966 to 1977 and New York City Health Commissioner from 1981 to 1985. In 2008 in his honor, the David Sencer Scholarship Fund was established at RSPH.
O. Wayne Rollins was a self-made business entrepreneur and innovator. In 1964 he orchestrated the purchase of Orkin Inc., often recognized as the first leveraged buyout. With his brother, John Rollins participated in numerous successful business ventures including radio and television stations, pest control, oil field services, truck leasing, boat manufacturing and real estate. Following his death in 1991, his sons, Randall and Gary Rollins, have continued to build the Rollins companies. Several members of the Rollins family have served on the Emory University Board of Trustees.

Famous quotes containing the words school, public and/or health:
“Loosed betwixt eye and lid, the swimming beams
Of memory, blind school of cuttlefish,
Rise to the air, plunge to the cold streams....”
—Allen Tate (18991979)
“President Lowell of Harvard appealed to students to prepare themselves for such services as the Governor may call upon them to render. Dean Greenough organized an emergency committee, and Coach Fisher was reported by the press as having declared, To hell with football if men are needed.”
—For the State of Massachusetts, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“We are conscious of an animal in us, which awakens in proportion as our higher nature slumbers. It is reptile and sensual, and perhaps cannot be wholly expelled; like the worms which, even in life and health, occupy our bodies. Possibly we may withdraw from it, but never change its nature. I fear that it may enjoy a certain health of its own; that we may be well, yet not pure.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
