Early Life and Education

Born October 10, 1975 in Monze, Zambia to John and Nuala McMorrow, he spent his childhood growing up in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He attended St. Colman's Primary School, Lisburn then Rathmore Grammar School, Belfast where he studied to GCSE level. At this point Roger had a small bump in the road. Having conceived and executed a prank that the school disagreed with he completed his secondary education to Advanced Level at Friends School Lisburn. He studied Medicine at the Queens University Belfast and was president of the Queens University Mountaineering Club from 1997 to 1998. On May 24, 2007 he summited Everest as a member of the research team on the Caudwell Xtreme Everest expedition. He was subsequently honoured as the Queens University Graduate of the Year 2007 for his part in the rescue of a young Nepalese woman left for dead near the summit of Everest. McMorrow now lives in Dublin with his wife Sara Spencer. They have three children Aoife, Isolde and Charlotte.

Famous quotes containing the words early, life and/or education:

Make-believe is the avenue to much of the young child’s early understanding. He sorts out impressions and tries out ideas that are foundational to his later realistic comprehension. This private world sometimes is a quiet, solitary
world. More often it is a noisy, busy, crowded place where language grows, and social skills develop, and where perseverance and attention-span expand.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

After all, it is hard to master both life and work equally well. So if you are bound to fake one of them, it had better be life.
    Joseph Brodsky (b. 1940)

Man is endogenous, and education is his unfolding. The aid we have from others is mechanical, compared with the discoveries of nature in us. What is thus learned is delightful in the doing, and the effect remains.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
