Robert Clohessy - Career

Career

Clohessy has had recurring roles in daytime dramas All My Children and Guiding Light. In primetime, he has become known for his multiple regular turns as police officers and other law enforcement officials, creating parallels between his acting career and upbringing by his policeman father. The first of such roles was in the seventh and final season of Hill Street Blues, where he played Officer Patrick Flaherty. The following season, Clohessy was cast as the new co-star of Pat Morita on the ABC detective series Ohara, playing Lt. George Shaver. Later, he would join the cast of the HBO prison drama Oz as Correctional Officer Sean Murphy. However, in between these roles, Clohessy would play characters not associated with law enforcement, with a supporting role as minister Thomas Smaraldo on NBC's comedy/drama Tattingers (1988-1989), and soon after in a starring role on NBC's short-lived comedy One of the Boys (1989). Clohessy co-starred on the Neal Marlens/Carol Black ABC sitcom Laurie Hill in 1992, playing a stay-at-home freelance writer married to the series' lead, played by DeLane Matthews (the series also featured an up-and-coming Ellen DeGeneres). In 2008, Clohessy had a regular role in the short-lived Fox show New Amsterdam.

In cinema, Clohessy played a semi-minor role in Across the Universe, playing the part of Jude's long-lost father.

Clohessy played the role of "Mike" in the Broadway Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Pal Joey, from November 2008 through February 2009. He is currently seen on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and has a recurring role on the CBS crime drama Blue Bloods.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

The 19-year-old Diana ... decided to make her career that of wife. Today that can be a very, very iffy line of work.... And what sometimes happens to the women who pursue it is the best argument imaginable for teaching girls that they should always be able to take care of themselves.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was. Some major form of recognition seems to have to mark a woman’s career for her to be able to go out on a limb without having her credentials questioned.
    Ruth Behar (b. 1956)

What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partner’s job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
