Roasted grain beverages are popular in Polish (brands Inka, Krakus, Anatol, Kujawianka) and East Asian cuisines, Japan, China, and Korea each having their own versions (usually roasted grains simply steeped in hot water). Often, during the communist period in Poland the grain beverages served as substitute of coffee during perpetual shortages.

Famous quotes containing the words asian and/or grain:

Exploitation and oppression is not a matter of race. It is the system, the apparatus of world-wide brigandage called imperialism, which made the Powers behave the way they did. I have no illusions on this score, nor do I believe that any Asian nation or African nation, in the same state of dominance, and with the same system of colonial profit-amassing and plunder, would have behaved otherwise.
    Han Suyin (b. 1917)

He showed me that the lines of a good helve
Were native to the grain before the knife
Expressed them, and its curves were no false curves
    Put on it from without.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
