After his college career ended in 2000, Ray attended a training camp for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, but did not make the team and only dressed for a single pre-season game. Ray made his professional debut near the bottom of the ladder, with the Fresno Frenzy of the Arena Football League's developmental league af2.
